Swimming
At Great Tey Primary we recognise the importance of children learning to swim, both as a way of keeping safe and as a way of staying healthy. All pupils in KS2 (Years 3-6) take part in a 6 week block of swimming lessons at Coggeshall Community Pool each year. The lessons are taught by a qualified swimming instructor and groups are ability levelled, with the aim that all pupils will be able to swim at least 25 metres before leaving primary school. Once they have achieved this level, children at Great Tey continue to take part in swimming lessons in order to further develop their skills and enjoyment of the sport.
In July 2023 -
- 89% of Y6 children were able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- 89% of Y6 children were able to use a variety of different strokes effectively, including breast stroke, back stroke and front crawl
- 89% of Y6 children were able to perform safe self-rescue techniques
There were 9 children in Y6 last year. Each child counts for 11% of the data.
