Headteacher's WelcomE
Great Tey Church of England (Controlled) Primary School is a small, friendly community school just outside Colchester. At Great Tey, it is our strong belief that children learn best when they are happy, well supported and engaged in their learning and we strive to give children experiences and opportunities which will engage their interest. All adults in school work hard to create an environment which allows every child to flourish and achieve to the best of their ability. Children here are well supported by a fantastic team of teachers and teaching assistants. Our children often say that “school feels like a family” – a reflection of the values of cooperation, support, acceptance and friendship that we seek to promote. We were delighted that this was recognised by the Ofsted inspectors who visited recently, and who found that -
"Pupils enjoy attending this welcoming school and do so regularly"
and
"Pupils live and breathe the school’s values through their daily actions."

I feel very privileged to be the Headteacher of Great Tey Primary School: to be responsible for each child’s welfare, education and happiness is something I take very seriously. Every decision that we make is for the benefit of all our children and this enthusiasm and vision is reflected in everything we do.
At Great Tey we value high-quality teaching for children and are, therefore, keen to embrace new initiatives to encourage our children to succeed in everything they do. We are proud of our Cornerstones Curriculum that promotes inclusion and encourages creativity, recognising that children are individuals and respond differently to different tasks. We have recently grown from 3 classes to 4 in order to continue to teach children in small class groups, supported by a teacher and, in most cases, two teaching assistants.
Please do come and visit our wonderful school, which one parent recently described as a ‘hidden gem’. We would be delighted to meet you and your children. The children at Great Tey are exceptional and we feel lucky to be a part of their education and future. We hope you will allow us to be a part of your child’s future too.
